The truth behind Mosquito Eaters!

Crane Flies, often referred to as Mosquito Eaters or Mosquito Hawks don’t actually eat mosquitos at all!?

Though it does look like a bigger meaner mosquito, the Crane Fly is not really a hunter at all. Being rather selective about it’s diet, the Crane Fly often eats either small amounts of nectar or nothing at all.

Turns out the adult fly form of this insect is focused on breeding and finding a suitable place to lay eggs. Depending on the species, adults only live form 2-15 days.
